Mental diarrhea

Rewatched The Host/Gwoemul just the other day and I still find it just as great as the first time. A very captivating throwback to kaiju movies like Godzilla with an environmental and political message that doesn’t feel forced, and with a monster that’s clearly shown from the get go and beautifully given life by Weta Studios

Everything about the monster itself is beautiful, really. It’s not just a horrifically deformed fish-beast created from pollutants, but a horrifically deformed fish-beast created from pollutants that tumbles awkwardly through land, swings from bridges and pipes using its tail, has a really disturbing, multi-layered freudian mouth, swallows people whole only to regurgitate their bones later, seemingly enjoys the taste of fuel AND, in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene, has several live regular fish embedded on its flesh, living parasitically!
